The Importance of Employment Background Checks
It is almost a puzzle to see several employees taking employment background checks with simplicity it does not deserve. This is possible because they believe that the law is tight enough to prevent criminal activities and the applicants are persons of high integrity. While this is true, its application is only partial. There are times when the unwished happens. Employment background checks are warranted for varied reasons.
Most people take these checks for criminal history. In 2005, a survey was done and showed that above 2.3 percent of business suffers co-worker involve of 0.6 to 8.1% for companies with 250 or less employees. The case was worse for companies which had above 1000 workers with 34.1% of violence cases. Assaults accounted for more than 13% of workplace fatalities. Businesses do not wish that this happen. As a matter of importance, the employer has to make sure that it prevents hiring of a violent worker or one who is attached to a criminal track record.
Protecting other employees and customers is another critical importance of background checking employees. Some evil minded individuals will not see it as hard, to harm kill or insult other people. These characters should be kept away so that there is harmonious working in the office. The noble duty extends to protection of the company clients. This can be seen from the case that happened to healthcare firm that has employed a home based attendant for a 32-year-old woman who was their client. The person did a financial crime to start with. Since the sick woman realized this crime, the attendant had to act to hide evidence an action he did by killing the woman. A business puts its customers and employees at risk should unscreened employees turn out to be evil.
Employment background checking is valued as it enhances protection of confidential information regarding the firm and its clients. TFirms that deal with confidential information such as health, finance and security would value this tool greatly. A certain VIP who was in need of a person guard hired an unchecked officer. The problem with the guard was he was part of criminal network terrorizing the residents. The end of it was a doom when he was kidnapped and confidential information confiscated. Thorough background checking of employee integrity needs to be done.
There is also a consensus that above 40% of the submitted resumes contains untrue information. There are those employees who intentionally declare false information in a bid to make their resume more attractive. An employment background checking helps a business to conform that the employee has the skills declared, has the academic certification posted and is who he/she claims to be.
